Audio Headset

Crew headsets play an important role in overall system communication. They also provide crew members with the necessary hearing protection for operating within the high noise environment experienced inside a modern armored fighting vehicle.

CDC has over 20 years experience in the integration and use of ANR with armored fighting vehicle intercoms and participated in the integration of the first-ever in-service ANR system.

All ROVIS systems support (as standard) the use of ANR headsets, and CDC has worked closely with numerous manufacturers to develop ANR headsets, which are compatible with ROVIS and offer the best performance possible. As a result, CDC offers a range of headsets suitable for both Combat Vehicle Crew and Infantry personnel, providing the best possible noise-attenuation performance at highly competitive prices.

The main types of headsets that CDC is able to offer, in conjunction with our product portfolio, are as follows:

Tank Helmets

Heavy- to medium-armored vehicles generate significant ambient noise which requires the use of ANR technology to ensure a safe working environment. Tank helmets provide ANR protection and also physical ballistic protection. The headset usually consists of the following items:

  • Twin ear-cup headset assembly fitted with Active Noise Reduction (ANR), Talk Through Circuits (TTC), main cable assembly and a boom microphone
  • Inner soft helmet
  • Hard-shell, which can be provided in either standard or high ballistic protection.

CDC can provide several types of tank helmets, incorporating some of or all of the following features:

  • ANR protection
  • A cost effective passive only option where no power is available for the crew member
  • Electronic talk through
  • Standard or high ballistic protection

Infantry crew Headsets

The ‘low-profile’ infantry headsets are designed to be worn under infantry helmets and can be configured to suit the customer’s specific needs.

These headsets have either an overhead band for traditional use, usually worn under the standard military helmet. Or can be fitted with a steel neckband to allow fitting or removal without having to remove the infantry helmet. Additional features include:

  • Electronic talk-thorough
  • Cut off the talk-through microphones in high noise to provide good passive attenuation during gun fire.
  • ANR as an option for high noise environments
  • Fitted with or without a microphone

Single Ear Headset

Used in conjunction with the Eagle close combat radio, CDC has developed a single ear headset which allows the user to maintain full peripheral hearing to communicate with civilians, while maintaining communications with the crew over the Eagle short range radio.

The headset can be worn under most standard military helmets and is secured using an easily adjustable Velcro strap. The headset also allows the users to fit either a standard ear defender or the in-vehicle intercom headset over it for added hearing protection. The lightweight headset is fitted with a noise-canceling microphone.

The single-ear headset is an ideal addition to the IDSS system as the single source of communications from both the short range and long range radio connected to the digital soldier system. The Eagle headset can also be used to listen to audible warning tones generated by the IDSS system.
